-Please refer to the attached Construction Career Day Flyer.

WHO:  A Coalition of northern Nevada Construction Industry associations, trades and contracting companies will come together to host 1,600 high school and middle school students from the Washoe County School District, home-schoolers and charter schools for Construction Career Day.

WHAT:  Northern Nevada Construction Career Day

Students, educators, and counselors from throughout the region will attend the event and interact with the more than 40 industry experts about opportunities for careers in construction and the skilled trades. Construction Career Day is a chance for students to learn about the variety of careers available through fun and informative interactive displays and booths.

WHERE:  Reno-Sparks Convention Center

WHEN:  Friday, October 13, 2023 - from 10am-2:00pm

WHY:  Shortages of skilled labor and the supply chain have made it difficult for the construction industry to recover since Covid.  This is on top of an ongoing stigma about jobs in the construction industry.  Construction Career Day aims to dispel those myths and serves as an opportunity for both industry and students to recruit the next generation of the workforce.  Whether one has a high school diploma or a master’s degree, a career in the construction industry offers a viable and lucrative career.

The event will demonstrate the benefits of a career in the construction industry, exciting and encouraging young people who may have an interest.  As the demand for a younger generation of the workforce grows, the supply hasn’t kept up. Students will have the opportunity to have hands-on experiences, interact with, and talk to industry leaders about the benefits of careers in the construction industry.  A variety of educational and employment resources will be available to the attending students.

Representatives from area construction firms, industry associations and higher education will be on hand to answer questions and showcase various aspects of the construction trades. “We love this event because it shows kids what types of careers are out there in the real world,” said Josh Hartzog, Director of Washoe County School Signatures and CTE programs. “Students can talk directly to industry representatives, get real-world information and see what the various career paths are all about.”

Education and employment resources, including the Northern Nevada Apprenticeship Coordinators Association, ACE High School, Truckee Meadows Community College and Sierra Nevada Job Corps will also be on hand to provide information on various post-secondary programs.
