At next week's Board of Trustees Meeting... 

The Board of Trustees will hold the January 9 meeting in person at the Administrative Building in the Admin Board Room at 425 East Ninth Street. Room capacity guidelines will be followed in accordance with established fire codes.

If the Board Room reaches maximum capacity, the Board respectfully requests that after members of the public make their public comment, they watch the meeting online or in the overflow room to provide enough space for all members of the general public to make public comment. A public comment period on topics not specifically addressed elsewhere in the agenda will be provided towards the end of the meeting after the Board business has been conducted. The Board will also accept public comments before and during the meeting through publiccomments@washoeschools.net. The Board will take time to read those comments during the meeting, announce the names of those who provided public comment via email and make those comments a part of the public record. Emailed comments will not be read aloud during the meeting. Public comments may not receive a response or have questions answered. If you submit both a public comment email and an email to the Board of Trustees at the same time, your email will be treated as a public comment and be included as part of the meeting materials and minutes.

The meeting on Tuesday, January 9 at 2 p.m. will include these agenda items:

  • Public hearing, discussion and possible action to adopt Washoe County School District Board Resolution 24-001, a resolution authorizing the issuance of up to $2,300,000 of medium-term obligations for the purpose of acquiring school buses and other support vehicles for the district; and direction of the Chief Financial Officer to forward materials to the Department of Taxation of the State of Nevada.
  • Adoption of Washoe County School District Board Resolution 24-002, a resolution proclaiming January 9, 2024, Law Enforcement Recognition Day in the Washoe County School District.
  • Presentation of the following Nevada Association of Schools Boards (NASB) Awards:  2023 NASB New School Board Member of the Year - Elizabeth Smith, Board President, and 2023 NASB School Administrator of the Year, Stacey Black, Principal at Gerlach K-12 School.
  • Presentation and discussion from the Discovery Museum and their partnership with the Washoe County School District, including how they support student academic success.
  • Presentation to update the Board of Trustees on the implementation and usage of the i-Ready assessment tool throughout elementary and middle schools in the Washoe County School District.
  • Presentation and discussion of the status of implementation and utilization of the district-wide installment of Centegix Crisis Alert Wearable Mobile System.
  • Discussion and possible action to recognize the voluntary withdrawal of the Association of Professional & Technical Administrators (APTA) as the bargaining representative for Professional Technical (Pro-Tech) employees and to recognize the Washoe Professional Technical Association (WPTA) as the exclusive bargaining representative for Pro-Tech employees in the Washoe County School District.
  • Discussion and possible action to approve the official job description for the Superintendent of Schools of the Washoe County School District.

You may submit your comments before or during the meeting at: publiccomments@washoeschools.net. Emailed comments will not be read aloud during the meeting. Also, public comments may not receive a response. Please accept our gratitude for your support and valued feedback.

Special Meeting of the Board of Trustees on Tuesday, January 23 at 9:00 a.m.  At this special meeting, discussion of the Superintendent Search will take place.  To view the agenda and meeting materials please visit our website.


Committee Meetings: All committee meetings will be held at district sites and information to participate is posted on the district's main calendar.


Council on Family Resource Centers will meet on Wednesday, January 17 at 6 p.m.


Zoning Advisory Committee will meet on Thursday, January 18 at 5:30 p.m.


Group Insurance Committee will meet on Wednesday, January 24 at 4 p.m.
