At next week's Board of Trustees Meeting... 

The Board of Trustees will hold the December 12 meeting in person at the Administrative Building in the Admin Board Room at 425 East Ninth Street. Room capacity guidelines will be followed in accordance with established fire codes.

If the Board Room reaches maximum capacity, the Board respectfully requests that after members of the public make their public comment, they watch the meeting online or in the overflow room to provide enough space for all members of the general public to make public comment. A public comment period on topics not specifically addressed elsewhere in the agenda will be provided towards the end of the meeting after the Board business has been conducted. The Board will also accept public comments before and during the meeting through publiccomments@washoeschools.net. The Board will take time to read those comments during the meeting, announce the names of those who provided public comment via email and make those comments a part of the public record. Emailed comments will not be read aloud during the meeting. Public comments may not receive a response or have questions answered. If you submit both a public comment email and an email to the Board of Trustees at the same time, your email will be treated as a public comment and be included as part of the meeting materials and minutes.

The meeting on Tuesday, December 12 at 2 p.m. will include these agenda items:

  • Presentation, discussion and possible action to approve the final district-wide Facility Modernization Plan (FMP), as recommended by the Capital Funding Protection Committee, and provides direction to the Superintendent to implement the Facility Modernization Plan.
  • Presentation and discussion regarding the reduction of current Washoe County School District bus transportation walk zones.
  • Discussion and possible action to consider the character and/or professional competence of Dr. Kristen McNeill, pursuant to Nevada Revised Statute (NRS) 241.031.  This portion of the meeting will remain open to the public, and administrative action to immediately appoint Dr. Kristen McNeill as Interim Superintendent of Schools per Board Policy 9082(6)(A).
  • Discussion and possible action to enter into an employment agreement with Interim Superintendent Dr. Kristen McNeill pursuant to Board Policy 9082(6)(B) with a start date of December 13, 2023.
  • Discussion and possible action, consistent with Board Policy 9055, to delegate President Elizabeth Smith oversight and management of the on-boarding process and transition plan for Interim Superintendent Dr. Kristen McNeill and to direct Superintendent Dr. Susan Enfield to create an on-boarding process and transition plan for Interim Superintendent Dr. Kristen McNeill to ensure the district continues to meet the promises, goals, targets and pillars of the Strategic Plan.
  • Presentation and announcement of the Thirteenth Annual Holiday Card Contest winners.

Public Comment for the December 12, 2023 Board Meeting: The Board of Trustees is providing the opportunity for all of our families, students, staff and community members to give us your feedback and comments. You may submit your comments before or during the meeting at: publiccomments@washoeschools.net. Emailed comments will not be read aloud during the meeting. Also, public comments may not receive a response. Please accept our gratitude for your support and valued feedback.

These impactful opportunities are geared for individuals in search of a role to volunteer their time and talents to the continued success of our students' schools. Committee Meetings: All committee meetings will be held at district sites and information to participate is posted on the district's main calendar.


Group Insurance Committee will meet on Wednesday, December 20 at 4 p.m.


Council on Family Resource Centers will meet on Wednesday, January 17 at 6 p.m.


Zoning Advisory Committee will meet on Thursday, January 18 at 5:30 p.m.
