All Things FAFSA

North Valleys High School will offer 3 FAFSA night workshops on campus this year:

  • December 4th @ 6pm
  • January 15th @ 6pm
  • February 12th @ 6pm

We would love to know which event you plan to attend but you are not required to reserve your spot to attend.  The most important thing is that you make it to one of the workshops.

If you are unable to attend any of the NVHS FAFSA Workshops, there will be FAFSA nights offered at all WCSD High Schools.  Information regarding the dates of these workshops will be posted here as soon as they become available.

We anticipate more changes coming to the FAFSA for the 2025-2026 aid year.

The new FAFSA was released at the end of December last year and contained SEVERAL CHANGES.  This process was called “FAFSA Simplification” because the intent was to make the FAFSA easier to navigate and quicker to file.  As a result of those changes to the process, and what is sure to be additional changes this year, the opening date for the 2025-2026 FAFSA has been postponed to make necessary revisions for a smoother filing experience.  The Department of Education's goal is to open the 2025-2026 FAFSA season by or before December 1st.  Updates will be posted as soon as they are available.

Some of the main changes seen in the 24-25 FAFSA:

  •  The new FAFSA had less than half of the questions of the previous FAFSA
  •  EFC (Expected Family Contribution) has been replaced with SAI (Student Aid Index). SAI serves a similar function. However, it is a revised version that is designed to more accurately assess each student’s financial situation.
  •  Income Protection Allowance Increase
  •  Number in College is no longer a consideration. This will have a significant effect on families with multiple students in college, and will lower financial eligibility for families with more than one student enrolled in college at the same time.
  •  For students with parents who are divorced, the custodial parent was required to fill out the parental section of the FAFSA. The custodial parent is defined as the parent with whom the child lives for the majority of the 12-month period ending on the day the FAFSA is filed.

Everyone will need to file and sign electronically. EVEN parents without Social Security Numbers.
