Thursday, June 8, 2017 -- As graduation season gets underway, the Washoe County School District (WCSD) is working closely with the Reno Police Department to ensure traffic moves as smoothly as possible near Lawlor Events Center, since families will have relatively small windows of time to leave the arena before other families arrive for later graduation ceremonies.

Wednesday, June 7, 2017 -- The National Merit Scholarship Corporation has announced that six high school seniors from the Washoe County School District (WCSD) have been awarded college-sponsored scholarships for the 2017-2018 school year.
The Washoe County School District applauds Gov. Brian Sandoval and Washoe legislative leaders for appropriating $5 million to address the significant funding anomaly WCSD faced as a result of a modified education funding formula. They demonstrated great leadership and their commitment to always put Nevada’s children first. It was critical to solve the deficit issue for this upcoming year as WCSD and its Board of Trustees have already submitted final budgets to the state, and would not have had time to address any additional deficit in a thoughtful and fair way.
Monday, June 5, 2017 -- Students and staff members at Veterans Memorial STEM Academy have partnered with Haws Corporation to design and create a unique drinking fountain for their school.
The Washoe County School District appreciates Governor Brian Sandoval for his immediate response to support Nevada’s children.We are thankful that Governor Sandoval is working with legislative leaders and us to find a solution for a recently discovered budget anomaly that would force the District to cut $6.6 million from our operating fund.The idea of a bridge funding proposal would help to address this surprise budget hole for the upcoming year.
Based on an untested and never-before-seen funding formula outlined in SB544, funding for the Washoe County School District has been significantly reduced from what we have been told throughout this legislative session. In fact, WCSD has already presented two balanced budgets to the Department of Taxation based on funding formulas provided by the Nevada Department of Education. On Tuesday evening, WCSD discovered that this new funding formula will cause a significant shortfall of at least $6.6 million each year over the next two years. WCSD would receive the lowest per pupil funding amount in the state.
Thursday, May 25, 2017 -- Students at Veterans Memorial STEM Academy will honor and remember American military veterans on May 26 when they dedicate a stone memorial near their school’s flagpole.
Wednesday, May 24, 2017 -- RISE Academy for Adult Achievement, where an average of 2,100 students attend classes each year to earn their high school diploma, high school equivalency certificate, and/or take English language classes, has been formally accredited by AdvancED, a non-profit, non-partisan organization that conducts rigorous on-site reviews of school systems to measure institutional success.
Tuesday, May 30, 2017 -- ROTC cadets at Edward C. Reed High School will dedicate a hallway at the school to a graduate who died while serving in the Army in Iraq in 2003.
