Earlier this morning I was informed that Governor Sisolak has decided to extend the closure of schools in our state until April 30. I repeat, in order to continue the fight against COVID 19, Governor Sisolak has extended the closure of all schools until April 30.

Urgent message from Interim Superintendent Dr. Kristen McNeill school closed until April 16. 3/21/2020
Late yesterday evening Governor Sisolak ordered all school districts in the state to close for a total of 30 days due to the coronavirus—or COVID 19-- pandemic. This means that schools are now scheduled to open on Thursday, April 16, upon approval of the Chief Medical Officer for the state, and brings schools into alignment with the closure period across Nevada.

Statement from WCSD Interim Superintendent Dr. Kristen McNeill Friday, March 20, 2020
Earlier today, the Washoe County School District learned that the Nevada Department of Education and State Superintendent Jhone Ebert have asked the United States Department of Education to waive assessments, accountability, school identification, and reporting requirements established by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) for the 2019-2020 school year.

Governor Sisolak, after consulting with local and state wide agencies including the Nevada Department of Education, health officials and school superintendents, has decided that all schools in the state of Nevada will close starting Monday, March 16 through to Friday, April 3.

We are monitoring the spread of COVI-19 and maintaining daily contact with the Washoe County Health District (WCHD) to assure we are up to date on the spread of COVID-19 and the most effective methods to slow the spread. To this point, there have been no known cases of COVID-19 in any WCSD Schools.
