Pete D'Amico
Lieutenant Colonel D’Amico began his military career in the United States Army in 1981, enlisting after high school graduation and serving as a helicopter repair specialist before accepting an appointment to the United States Air Force Academy. His last assignment prior to retirement from active duty was Commander, 559th Flying Training Squadron at Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio Texas. After retirement, Lt Col D’Amico served as Director of Operations for Doss Aviation Initial Flight Screening Program, charged with screening 2,000 future Air Force aviators annually prior to their attending Joint Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training or Joint Undergraduate Navigator Training. In 2010, he was selected to be the Senior Aerospace Science Instructor at Lowell High School, Lowell, Massachusetts with a cadet corps of almost 400 students. He joined the North Valleys High School AFJROTC team in August 2016.
After graduation from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1987, Lt Col D’Amico completed Undergraduate Pilot Training at Williams Air Force Base, Arizona. Over the next 7 years, he served as B-52G/H pilot, evaluator pilot, and aircraft commander in various locations including Andersen AFB, Guam, Carswell AFB, Texas and Castle AFB, California. He deployed in 1990 in support of Operation Desert Storm. After serving as T-37 Instructor Pilot and Chief of Squadron Standardization and Evaluation in Del Rio, Texas, Lt Col D’Amico was selected to serve as Assistant Air Attaché to Ukraine, working at the U.S. Embassy in Kiev, Ukraine as advisor to the U.S. Ambassador, U.S. Defense Attaché, and U.S. Country Team.
Upon return to the United States, Lt Col D’Amico attended the U.S. Air Force Air Command and Staff College with a Master’s in Military Operational Art and Science. He then served as T-38 Instructor and Evaluator Pilot and Chief of Group Standardization and Evaluation Division, in charge of standardizing training and instruction of all the Group’s instructors across five different aircraft training programs. Lt Col D’Amico is a Command Pilot and FAA Certified Flight Instructor with more than 4000 flying and instructor hours in the B-52G/H, T-37, T-38, C-12, Diamond DA-20, Piper Comanche and Cessna aircraft.
