As you all know, we will begin SBAC testing next week on Monday.  Sometimes this can be seen as a stressful time but lets flip that mindset and look at it as a time to celebrate the incredible work you have put in over the last 12 months.  These tests are just a snapshot in time, they are not the only thing that defines you.  Make sure you get plenty of sleep and a good breakfast on the day of your test, take a deep breath, talk to yourself about how hard you’ve work to prepare for this and do your best!  Regardless of how you do, be proud that you did your best and everything else will fall into place.  You got this!

Yesterday’s events in Washington D.C. were another example that we are living in historical times that will be talked about for a long time.  As you enter your classrooms today you may have questions, you may feel unsure of what to do and you might be confused about what happened.  All of that is ok!  Your teachers, counselors, administrators and all staff are here to support you if needed.  If you have questions, feel free to ask them.  Remember that we all have different perspectives of what happened and it is important to hear all sides and look at all facts as we determine our own judgements and feelings.  This is another example of how much stronger we are together and how weak we can become if we allow ourselves to be divided.   I know our community is strong and it’s because we have come together when faced with adversity.  Lets make sure to use this as another opportunity to show that strength

Today is a Full Distance Day starting with 1st Period.

In case no one has told you yet today, I care about you, I believe in you and I’m excited to see what you’re going to do today.

    Good Morning Shaw Coyotes!

    December 17th, 2020

He is driven, pays attention to detail, and quietly takes care of business. I can always count on him to provide his very best work! He makes teaching worthwhile and I sure am glad he is on Team 9. Keep it up Nery, you are appreciated!!”

Today’s schedule has been modified to allow time for finals to be taken during class.  We will have 38 minute periods, 3 minute passing and no Enrichment class today.  You still need to complete your attendance forms for all classes, including Enrichment.  The schedule will be

    1st: 9:30-10:08

    2nd: 10:11-10:49

    3rd: 10:52-11:30

    Lunch: 11:30-12:00

    4th: 12:00-12:38

    5th: 12:41-1:19

    6th: 1:22-2:00

The Alpha Award has been found!! It was taken by the Grinch and Mr. Gifford who put it in the Groundskeepers Shed by the track.  But we still have a tie of who figured it out first.  Mrs. Hughes’ enrichment and Mr. Horntvedt’s enrichment both had 83% of their students dress up yesterday.  To break the tie and award the Alpha Award to the rightful winner, the contest will continue today!  Because we are not having Enrichment today, students in Mrs. Hughes and Mr. Horntvedt’s enrichments need to send in pictures of them dressed up in holiday gear today to their teacher by 2pm.  Whichever Enrichment sends in pictures with the highest percentage of students with holiday gear on will win the Alpha Award for their Team!

Today is the last day of the Semester!  Together we have navigated the craziest semester there has ever been these past 4 months.  From adjusting to hybrid learning to smoke days, from student and staff exclusions to full distance learning we have learned to be flexible, understanding, independent and also collaborative.  I’m proud of our students, I’m proud of our families and I’m proud of our teachers.  We will never forget this semester and I am confident and excited that the work we have done will lead to a very successful second semester!  Enjoy your break, have fun, sleep in, play in the snow and get ready to come back for full distance learning on January 4th

Today is a Full Distance Day starting with 1st Period following a delayed start schedule.

For example you could say, "Hi there, I noticed you were sitting alone, can I join you?, or what’s your favorite game to play, or what’s your favorite song? Hey what do you like to do when you are home on DL days?  What do you spend your time doing when at home, after school?"

Things to think about when talking with another student about their perspective; imagine yourself having the same experience as the other person, use your own similar past experience to understand a situation, An example of how to respond to another’s perspective could be,  "I never thought about it that way, thank you for sharing your perspective or that’s a good way of thinking about it".

We are going to continue moving forward with our lessons and getting prepared for next semester.  More instructions and expectations were sent home last night.  We know this is another curveball thrown at us but you all have done an amazing job navigating all the twists and turns this year and we know you’ll continue to do so during this time.

The Toy Drive is still continuing! November 30th to December 11th, we will be holding a toy drive for the Boys and Girls Club, Carano Site. Please bring in new and unwrapped toys for ages 5 and older to your enrichment teacher. Our goal is to bring in 200 toys! You can drop off toys in the front office starting on Wednesday, just please make sure your Enrichment Teacher’s name is on the toy so your class can get credit. The enrichment that brings in the most toys will win a treat! Let’s show some holiday spirit to these kids!

Today is an A Group Day starting with 1st Period

This week is National School Psychology Week, and the theme this year is THE POWER OF POSSIBILITY!!

From the NASP website: "The word 'possibility' implies hope, growth, resilience and renewal. Possibility suggests that even something as small as a seed can grow into something magnificent. The word 'power' implies that things can and will happen. When we focus on what is possible, we have hope that students will grow, thrive and bloom.” We’d like to give a big shoutout to our new School Psychologist, Mr. Sullivan.  He has been rocking it this year and we are so lucky to have him!  If you see him in the hallways today, give him an air five and tell him Thank you!

    Good Morning Shaw Coyotes!

    August 19th, 2020

Wow, what a great first day! It was awesome to see students back in our building.  It was a little weird only having half of our students but worth it to get back to teaching and learning!  We are looking forward to seeing our A group students today and having the same greatness today!  Pretty similar announcements to yesterday today.

We are starting our day off in Enrichment today, so please make sure you are in your Enrichment class right now.  Our schedule today is a little different as we are going to give you plenty of time in Enrichment to ask questions, check out some videos about expectations and figure out how to do school again!  We will stay in Enrichment until 8:30 and then head to 1st period.

Some things that are different this year: We will not have bells to end or start a class.  Your teachers will dismiss you at the end of the period without a bell.  You’ll then head straight to your next class where we’ll start when everyone shows up.  We’ll also be staggering who goes into the hallway at what time in order to limit the amount of people in the hallway each time.

We also will have three lunches this year, a 6th grade lunch, a 7th grade lunch and an 8th grade lunch.  You’ll receive more information about what lunch looks like now later today.

We are so happy to see you again but we also want to make sure we stay safe and healthy as we return.  Remember to wear your mask throughout the entire day, wash your hands with soap and water as much as possible and take advantage of the hand sanitizer we have throughout the building, including at the door of each of your classrooms.  Stay clean, stay safe and stay happy!

Today is an A Group Day with a 60 minute enrichment followed by all six periods.

Please stand for a moment of silence followed by the pledge of allegiance

In case no one has told you yet today, I care about you, I believe in you and I’m excited to see what you’re going to do today.

For the first time in 158 days, we are back in school!  How exciting is that!? You might not be able to tell, but I’m smiling under my mask right now! I know there are a lot of emotions today and that’s ok.  Embrace the excitement and positivity and today will go great!  Most likely there are a lot of questions as well.  We hope to be answer many of those as we work through our day today.  It’s going to be a fun day, we are so happy to be back at Shaw with all of you!
