Rising Star Schools
The Washoe County School District (WCSD) has posted a list of District schools that are classified as “Rising Star Schools” by the Nevada Department of Education.
Rising Star Schools need additional assistance to reach Nevada State Standards (academic goals set by the state), and are provided with additional resources to meet those important goals.
Each school indicated as eligible for the Nevada Achievement School District is also eligible to enter into a performance compact with the State of Nevada.
What is a Parent Petition under Nevada State Law?
The Parent Petition is a way for parents and guardians with children at certain Rising Stars Schools that are not meeting Nevada State Standards to advocate for a change to improve their child’s school. Each petition must have a specific “School Plan.” Parents and guardians who are in favor of the School Plan can sign an official signature page to show their support for the plan. you can find more information about Parent petitions.
