School of Choice
School of Choice is an application process where Washoe County School District (WCSD) families can choose which school they want their children to attend. This process was formerly known as the variance process. WCSD has streamlined this process for our families, making it more accessible. Online Registration must be completed each year in order to be considered for a new or continuing School of Choice placement. Please see below for a list of frequently asked questions.

If you are new to Washoe County or have an incoming kindergarten student and would like to apply for a different school other than your zone school, please reach out to the School of Choice Office. We can be reached at schoolofchoice@washoeschools.net or 775-333-6099.
All application windows for the 2026 - 2027 school year for current WCSD students are closed.

If your child is currently enrolled in WCSD, you will need their 7-digit Student ID number to complete their application. You can find their Student ID number by logging into the Parent Portal here: https://washoenv.infinitecampus.org/campus/portal/parents/washoe.jsp
If you are new to WCSD, please complete online registration in addition to your School of Choice application. Online registration can be found here: https://www.washoeschools.net/directory/student-enrollment-and-records/register-for-school
