From our wonderful Principal AuCoin at JWood Raw Elementary School:
Kindergarten is where many children begin their formal educational journey, especially if they have not previously attended preschool or daycare. Because of that, it’s incredibly important that this first school experience is a positive one that supports both academic learning and social‑emotional growth.
From the very beginning, we want families to see the school as a true partner. Creating the best possible experience for students requires close collaboration between home and school, with everyone working toward the same goal: helping each child thrive.
Strong school–family relationships matter, especially in kindergarten, because this is the start of a long journey. When schools and families work together, students feel supported and confident.
That’s why we are very intentional about building a welcoming school environment and ensuring families know that we care deeply about their children. At the same time, we also believe in maintaining clear boundaries and expectations. While home and school environments may look different, and that’s okay, it’s important that we support one another’s roles rather than undermine them.
When families and schools recognize that we share the same goal, even while working in different settings, students are the ones who benefit most.
