What is an Out of District or Out of State variance?
An Out of District or Out of State variance is a form used to request and grant permission for a student to attend a school that falls outside their district or state of residence in an adjoining district or state.
The Washoe County School District permits Out of District variances from the following school districts:
- Carson City School District
- Churchill County School District
- Lyon County School District
- Storey County School District
- Sierra Plumas Joint Unified School District, California
- Tahoe Truckee Unified School District, California
- Pyramid Lake Jr./Sr. High School, Nevada
2025-2026 School Year
- Out of District Variances for the 2025-2026 school year may be submitted through Thursday, April 30, 2026.
2026-2027 School Year
- Out of District Variances for the 2026-2027 school year will be accepted and reviewed after Friday, May 1st, 2026.
- I want my child to attend school in Washoe County from an adjoining district or state
- I'm a Washoe County resident and I want my child to attend school in an adjoining district or state to Washoe County
