Office of Student Services

Family School Partnerships – Leads district efforts to build the capacity of educators to partner with families and to increase family engagement. Key areas of focus include Parent University, Parent-Teacher Home Visits, Family Graduation Advocates, Native American Culture & Education, and Translation Services. 

Intervention  – Uses several approaches Partner with students, families, schools, and community agencies to ensure the success of all students by helping to identify and remove barriers to student learning. The department leads district chronic absenteeism and student re-engagement efforts, leads supports for Children in Transition ( CIT) programming, Foster Care Programming, and manages county-wide Family Resource Centers. The Intervention Department also supports the district's Student Voice division.

Counseling Services - Plays a focal role in promoting and fostering the social emotional and academic health of students. The department includes counseling supports, Mental Health Professional and School Social Worker supports, Crisis Response Supports, and 504 Supports. The department also plays a key role in substance use prevention and violence intervention. 

Student Health Services- Supervises and builds the capacity of licensed school nurses, as well as clinical aides, assigned to all district schools. Responsible for state required health screenings. Plays a critical role in promoting academic and social learning by supporting the physical health of students by anticipating, preventing, and removing health barriers. 

Psychological Services -  Supervises and builds the capacity of licensed school psychologists assigned to all district schools and responsible for key areas of programming such as Gifted and Talented Services. School Psychologists regularly support teachers and students experiencing academic and behavioral challenges. Play a pivotal role in evaluating students for special education eligibility with special education laws. Lead efforts to ensure student and staff safety through safety screeners, safety assessments, threat assessments and safety plans.

Community Partnerships – Although the office does not have a formal department to support community partnerships, each of its department builds and depends on partnerships to support students and families.  An exhaustive listing of partners is not available because it is ever changing.  However, key partnerships include, and are not limited to, Reno Sparks Indian Colony and the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe, Human Services Agency, Juvenile Services Agency, The Children’s Cabinet, Communities in Schools, University of Nevada Reno, Northern Nevada Public Health, Community Health Alliance, Strengthen Our Community, and Renown.
