Who Do I Contact With a Complaint About My Child's Coach?

If you have a concern or question regarding a coach or any aspect of the athletic program, it is important to address it. Please follow the chain of command below:

  1. First: Contact the coach directly.

  2. If unresolved: Reach out to the school’s Athletic Director.

  3. Next: Contact the Administrator in charge of athletics.

  4. Then: Speak with the Principal.

  5. Finally: Reach out to the Coordinator of Activities & Athletics.

What Is Register My Athlete (RMA), Now Called Aktivate?

Aktivate (formerly Register My Athlete or RMA) is a web-based registration platform used by all Washoe County School District high schools to register athletes for NIAA-sanctioned sports.

  • The same account will be used throughout all four years of a student's athletic career.

  • Initial registration takes approximately 45 minutes for a parent to complete.

  • After the first year, registration becomes a quick update each season or school year.

What Is a Transfer of Eligibility (T.E.F.) Request?

A Transfer of Eligibility request is submitted through the Aktivate system when a student transfers enrollment from one school to another, either within the same district or to a different district.

  • The student's athletic eligibility may change depending on the nature and circumstances of the transfer.

  • Each case is reviewed to determine whether eligibility is maintained, gained, or lost.

 

Can My Child Participate in Sports if They Attend a Magnet or Signature Program?

Yes, students enrolled in Magnet or Signature Programs are eligible to participate in sports. However, the level and type of participation can vary based on when and how the transfer into the program occurs.

  • It is highly recommended to consult with the athletics office before enrolling to fully understand how eligibility may be affected.

  • The office is available to answer any questions you may have about these programs and their impact on sports eligibility.

Where Can I Find Information About Regional or State Competitions?

To find information about Regional or State competitions:

  • Visit the NIAA website and select the appropriate sport from the left-hand menu.

  • For details regarding student travel and accommodations, please contact the Student Activities Office directly.


What Are Some of the Fees Associated With High School Sports?

The following fees apply to student-athletes in the Washoe County School District:

District-Level Fees

  • Transportation Fee: $75

  • WCSD Concussion Management Assessment Fee: $15

  • Athletic Training and Supply Fee: $10 per sport

School-Level Fees

  • Student Body Fee: $25

  • Sport-Specific Fees: Vary by sport; check with your coach or athletic director.

Note: Some teams may also require fundraising participation. Contact your coach or the athletic director for detailed cost and fundraising expectations for each sport.
