Section 504

Welcome to 504 / Home Hospital

Mission:
Washoe County School District is committed to ensuring all students, regardless of a disability or impairment, receive high-quality, comprehensive support by promoting equal access to school-based educational programs.

Students with a disability or impairment may qualify for additional educational supports through Section 504 if it is determined, by a team of professionals at your child's school, that academic progress may be impacted by their health condition/impairment. Section 504 is a provision outlined by federal statute that promotes equitable access to education, despite a child's disability or health impairment.

Section 504 federal statute states that:

"No otherwise qualified individual with a disability shall solely by reason of her or his disability, be excluded from the participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any other program or activity receiving federal financial assistance."

Major Function:

The purpose of the Section 504 Rehabilitation Act of 1973 is to prohibit discrimination and to assure that disabled students are provided equal benefits and educational opportunities as non disabled students.
