K-9 Unit

                         

The WCSD PD K-9 Program was established in 1998 and is dedicated to school safety by deterring the presence of illegal drugs and weapons on all District properties.  Not only are the K-9 officers a useful tool in helping to keep our schools drug free they also are used to educate our youth about the dangers and consequences of drug use. 

K-9 Astro joined the Washoe County School Police in 2023.  Astro was born in Ireland and is trained to find firearms and illegal street drugs. He is handled by Officer Bowers.  Astro likes to say hello when he is not working.  When he is working, he helps the Police Department keep guns off of  WCSD property.  He can also alert on illegal street drugs in our schools.
