What is Explicit SEL Instruction?

Explicit instruction in Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) means intentionally teaching skills such as self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making through structured, evidence-based lessons. Rather than assuming students will “pick up” these skills, explicit SEL provides dedicated time, clear objectives, modeling, practice, and reflection.

Our adopted curricula are CASEL Select programs—independently reviewed, evidence-based resources that demonstrate positive outcomes for students and educators. These programs ensure consistent, high-quality SEL instruction across grade levels.
