Mission Statement

The Internal Audit Department, at the direction of the Washoe County School District Board of Trustees and the Audit Committee, provides risk-based and objective assurance, advice, and insight to enhance and protect organizational value.

Board Policy 9170 – Internal Audit Department, adopted March 14, 2017 establishes the authority of the Internal Audit Department, its activities, adherence to standards, and independence and objectivity (formerly known as the Internal Audit Charter).

2018 Knighton Award - The Association of Local Government Auditors (ALGA) awarded the Internal Audit Department the 2018 Distinguished Knighton Award for best performance audit in the small audit shop category. The recognized report was Nutrition Services - Unpaid Balances and Community Eligibility.
