List of Approved and Non-Approved Inservice

Nevada Department of Education (NDE) Micro-Credentials

Due to the challenges in consistently aligning the Nevada Department of Education (NDE) micro-credentials with our Washoe County School District (WCSD) Inservice requirements, these micro-credentials will only be eligible for professional learning hours unless an Inservice application is submitted and approved in advance.

If you are interested in using an NDE micro-credential for Inservice credit, please be sure to complete and receive approval for the appropriate application prior to participation. This process ensures that all professional learning opportunities align with district guidelines for salary advancement.

To count for salary advancement, a course must:

  • Occur outside of contract time for a minimum of 7.5 hours AND
    • Have focused content related to the existing license of the educator OR
    • Have focused content related to a current or upcoming course of the educator (if not in an area in which the educator is licensed) OR
    • Have content related to general areas for all teachers click here for an example list

When there is no graduate level course unable to fulfill a professional learning need, educators can apply for pre-approval of an undergraduate course by clicking here.

Approved Providers:

Non-Approved:

Please note that courses from these organizations will not be accepted for salary advancement because they do not meet one or more criteria listed below:

  • The course provider ensures 15 hours of professional learning outside of contract time for 1.0 credit as needed for salary advancement per the WEA and WSPA Negotiated Agreements.
  • The course is related to the educator's present or future content area, licensure areas, classroom pedagogy, and/or relevant topics related to the growth and development of children/adolescents.
  • The course requires a task, project, essay or other related output to demonstrate the transfer of learning into practice.
  • The course is facilitated by an instructor.  The instructor interacts with the professional learning participants either face-to-face or virtually OR through feedback and grading (including pass/fail) on participant tasks.
  • For online courses, the organization verifies that the course was completed outside of contract time through a time tracking mechanism.
  • Any non-degree course that is not approved prior to authorization will not be accepted.

Before signing up for a course outside MyPGS that is not listed as approved, please check the course for the criteria listed above or reach out to the Talent Development for further instruction.  Please note that our response time has been delayed due to the number of emails we are currently receiving.  Thank you for your patience.
