Effective Teaching and Learning: A Vision for K-5 Literacy Instruction
WCSD Literacy instruction is grounded in the Nevada Academic Content Standards. Literacy instruction fosters the development of reading, writing, talking, listening and viewing to learn subject matter in a progression to become independent learners. Explicit reading instruction around the five foundational skills (Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Fluency, Vocabulary, and Comprehension) are systematically taught and reinforced throughout the learning.
