Internships

• Organized by career field, facilitated by a teacher and focus on understanding the range of career opportunities available in the field.
• Internships are typically unpaid and are connected to classroom learning and accompanied by structured reflection activities.
• Students participating in internships are guided by a formal, written training plan that defines specific academic and workplace skills to be mastered.
• Internships may be taken for course credit typically 60 hours per semester credit.
• These are most appropriate for upperclassmen students.
• To earn credit, students must attend orientation, all scheduled classes, meet specific learning outcomes, complete assignments, and participate in a final project presentation.
• Group internships start the second week of each semester and end the week prior to finals.
• Group internships have LIMITED space and are based on application submissions and random lottery draw for enrollment.

• Meet a specific career interest of the student and facilitated by WCSD staff and employer host.

*NEW* Construction Careers provides a broad spectrum of interactions and opportunities in the Commercial field of contractors and sub-contractors.  Student will have access to major and local companies, employees, and active sites with experiences designed to pique interest and validate future career plans.

Renown Health Medical Internship - Explore Renown Health, learning from a variety of health and patient care professionals about career opportunities in direct medical care, diagnostics, informatics (patient information management), management and human resources.

KUNR Youth Media Program - Intern with KUNR to learn how to be a radio reporter and podcaster! Students get hands-on experience from professional journalists to learn how to pitch, write, voice, and edit audio stories that matter to them.

Engineering Experience - This group experience provides a unique opportunity to learn about 5 disciplines in the Engineering realm.  Students get hands-on experience from professionals in Architecture, Civil, Electrical, Structural, and Mechanical Engineers!

City of Reno - Intern with the City of Reno to learn how city government and departments work to support our city in various ways. Students get hands-on experience from employees and officials about their day-to-day role and impacts of each department. PBS Reno - Intern in an individual setting at PBS Reno to help learn/understand how media content is created for public broadcasting, social media, and hands-on camera/equipment use. This internship requires additional application requirements via PBS Reno.

 Girls on the Run (Sierras)- This individual internship provides a behind the scenes look at a high energized and super impactful non-profit for young girls in our community through SEL lessons and goal setting experiences.  The small but mighty Girls on the Run staff will provide event planning, fundraising experience, and community impact.  Learn more about them here.
