Class Size Report for all Classes

Assembly Bill No. 304, Section 5.5, 4. of the 2019 Legislature requires:  Not later than 30 days after the beginning of each school year, the board of trustees of each school district shall post on an internet website maintained by the school district the ratio of pupils per licensed teacher that has been approved for each class in the district.  The information below is intended to comply with this requirement.

Quarterly Class Size Reduction (CSR for Grades 1-3)

Nevada Revised Statues (NRS) 388.725 requires school districts to report annually, on their websites, information related to average daily attendance, class sizes for grades 1, 2, and 3, and an identification for which a variance from the prescribed pupil-teacher ratios was granted by the State Board of Education for each elementary school in the district.

The annual reports posted on this website are intended to meet this requirement. Meeting class-size ratio requirements for each individual school by grade is difficult when enrollment by grade varies from school to school. Some schools may exceed the requirement while others may be under the requirement. Adding another teacher to the particular grade not meeting the requirement is cost-prohibitive as the state has not provided sufficient funding for the District to do so. However, the Washoe County School District, as a whole for each grade, strives to meet the overall requirements for class-size ratios.

Nevada Revised Statutes (NRS) Chapter 388.700 requires that the ratio of pupils per licensed full-time teacher in classes where core curriculum is taught must not exceed 16 to 1 in grades Kindergarten, 1, and 2, and must not exceed 18 to 1 in grade 3.

The Board of Trustees for each school district must request a variance from the State Board of Education when any elementary school exceeds the required class-size ratio when preparing the annual report.
