Make an IMPACT with AI
Chris Turner

The graphic is divided into three main sections: the introduction, the core "IMPACT" framework, and a practical guide on prompting.

1. The IMPACT Framework The centerpiece of the graphic uses the acronym IMPACT to outline six key components for using AI in education:

  • I - Inquiry: Encourage critical thinking and problem-solving. Use AI to explore new possibilities.

  • M - Motivation: Use AI to create interactive and engaging experiences to keep students interested.

  • P - Personalized Content: Employ AI to tailor learning materials to specific student needs and interests.

  • A - Apply Responsibly: Model ethical usage, covering school policies, data privacy, and cyber security.

  • C - Collaboration: Facilitate discussions on how AI can enhance teamwork and communication.

  • T - Tailored Feedback: Allow AI to assist in providing personalized and constructive feedback to students.

2. How to Write the "Perfect Prompt" The bottom section provides a formula for prompt engineering specifically for teachers:

  • Define a Persona: (e.g., "Act as a 3rd grade English teacher...")

  • Specify a Format: (e.g., "Create a list of discussion questions...")

  • Provide Context & Keywords: Use natural language, be clear/concise, and include relevant educational keywords.

3. AI Just for Schools A small section on the bottom right emphasizes using AI tools specifically approved for educational environments to summarize documents or create examples.

Teacher challenges students to write without ChatGPT as a crutch
Chris Turner

A high school teacher challenges his students to develop their own writing skills by initially banning ChatGPT, and then reintroducing it as a tool for identifying weaknesses rather than a crutch for generating essays, citing research that suggests heavy AI reliance may hinder cognitive development.
