Chief Academic Officers

Chief Academic Officer -  Jennifer Van Tress

Jen Van Tress

I have had the privilege of being an educator in Washoe County School District for over 25 years. I began my career as a Speech-Language Pathologist. I also served in the WCSD Special Education Department as a Program Consultant and Special Education Area Administrator, providing support to general and special education teachers and administrators in elementary through high schools. In 2006, I became an assistant principal for Caughlin Ranch and Marvin Moss Elementary Schools. The following year, I was the assistant principal at Van Gorder ES. This led to being selected as the principal at Van Gorder in 2011.

As the Chief Academic Officer of Student Development & Success, I am committed to collaborating with our school communities and families to help all students attain their full potential.

Chief Academic Officer - Kris Hackbusch

Kris Hackbusch

I am honored to serve as the Chief Academic Officer for Secondary Education for the Washoe County School District, where I support teaching and learning across our secondary schools and work alongside educators and leaders to improve outcomes for all students. Over the past 26 years with WCSD, I have had the privilege of serving as a teacher, coach, dean, assistant principal, principal, and district leader. I began my career at Reed High School and later served as Principal of Reno High School from 2012 to 2024. Prior to my career in education, I was a student-athlete and basketball coach at the University of Nevada, experiences that helped shape my leadership philosophy and commitment to teamwork. Throughout my career, I have remained focused on creating opportunities for student success, supporting educators, and fostering strong school communities.

I am grateful for the opportunity to continue serving the students, families, and staff of Washoe County in this role.
