Melynda Baker

I am honored to serve the Washoe County School District learning community as a Secondary Area Superintendent within the Office of Academics. Since beginning my career in education in 2004, I have had the privilege of serving students, families, and educators across private, charter, and public school systems at the elementary, middle, and high school levels in California, Pennsylvania, Washington, D.C., and now in the exceptional Washoe County School District.

My journey with WCSD began at Procter R. Hug High School, where I served as an English teacher and instructional coach before advancing into leadership roles as Dean and Assistant Principal. I later joined the North Valleys High School learning community as Assistant Principal and Interim Principal before becoming the proud Principal of O’Brien Middle School. I had the privilege of coaching, mentoring, and supervising school administrators across the district for over a decade before becoming an Area Superintendent in 2023.

The relationships I have built with students, educators, and school communities have profoundly shaped my own growth as a learner and leader. These experiences have reinforced my belief in the power of collaboration, innovation, and shared leadership to create meaningful opportunities for growth, continuous improvement, and student success. I am passionate about fostering strong partnerships and supporting schools in ways that promote collective efficacy, strategic problem-solving, and a culture of excellence.
