Mr. Miller

Mr. Miller is your English Language Arts and Social Studies teacher, he also teaches Drama/Journalism as an Enrichment class. Students will have Mr. Miller for ELA and Social Studies, and Ms. Klock for Math and Science. The other teacher on the team is Ms. McAlpine, who teaches Spanish, French and photography.

This is his second year at Pine, having previously taught at Sparks High, Sparks Middle, Traner Middle, and the Nevada Leadership Academy. (He truly believes Pine is the best school he has experienced.) He has taught students in grades 6 through 12.

Teaching is his second or third career. He worked in public relations as the University Editor at the University of Nevada, Reno, and was a newspaper editor and writer for many years in California and Nevada.

Mr. Miller is married and has two grown children. His wife is a wound-care and home-care nurse for the Veterans Hospital. His daughter is a history teacher at Spanish Springs High School, and his son works in manufacturing as a welder and machinist.

He has coached sports in the Reno/Sparks area for about 20 years: predominantly as a soccer coach at the high school, middle school, and club levels, and as a ski instructor in high schools and Sky Tavern.

The lifelong Green Bay Packers fan also likes the New York Mets and Reno Aces; Boston Celtics; and soccer teams like Manchester United, Barcelona, Tijuana Xolos, San Jose Earthquakes, and Reno 1868 FC.

He was born in Indiana, but mostly grew up in the Sacramento, Calif., area. He loves the Reno/Tahoe area for its small-town ambiance, beauty, and ample opportunities for outdoor activities and long motorcycle rides.
