SEPTEMBER 23: PEAVINE ELEMENTARY ANNUAL ChiliFest. EVENT WILL TAKE PLACE FROM 11-3. WE HAVE HELPED PEAVINE WITH THIS EVENT IN THE PAST. MEMBERS REPORT THAT THEY HAVE A GREAT TIME! THE EVENT COORDINATOR IS KATHY PATTERSON. THE COORDINATOR STATES THAT SHE NEEDS AS MANY K&L VOLUNTEERS AS POSSIBLE. THEY ARE COUNTING ON OUR HELP FOR THEIR KIDS. WE WILL HAVE SIGN UPS AT OUR SEPTEMBER 21 MEETING. PLEASE BE THINKING ABOUT THIS.

SEPTEMBER 25: SMALL GYM RIGHT AFTER SCHOOL FOR ABOUT AN HOUR. MCQUEEN NEEDS OUR HELP TO SET UP FOR SOPHOMORE JOB INTERVIEWS. WE NEED MANY HANDS TO GET THIS DONE QUICKLY. SIGN UP AT THE SEPTEMBER 21 MEETING.
SEPTEMBER 29: Deadline to deliver hand-made cards for service members. We need several members to create and write well thought out holiday cards for our active duty service men and women. Cards will be available at our next meeting on September 21st, with each card with be worth an approved half hour. Please turn them in to Mrs. Woods in the front office by September 29th. She will also be the one who signs your hour sheet. Also please address each card as "Dear Service member".
SEPTEMBER 30: KTMB Truckee River Clean Up Day. This is a community wide volunteer event done annually by the KTMB Project. We support this event as an approved activity. To do this event you must sign up online. Here is the link:
OCTOBER 6, 7 & 8: RENO CELTIC CELEBRATION-This year the Reno Celtic Celebration will take place on October 7th and 8th with event setup occurring on the 6th. All volunteer shifts and positions are open and available. If you would like to participate please open the link below and fill out the volunteer form for this year as it updates the database. Volunteers who complete the form will be called approximately a week to two weeks out to confirm selected shifts and go over the details.
OCTOBER 13: MELTON HARVEST FESTIVAL is looking for prize/candy runners and face painters from 5:00-7:30 pm. They will provide all supplies needed. Face painters would paint basic Halloween shapes such as ghosts, witches hats and pumpkins. They DESPERATELY need 7 people (3 candy runners and 4 face painters). Sign ups to help this school out will be at the September meeting.
OCTOBER 15: VERDI ELEMENTARY PUMPKIN PATCH FESTIVAL. WHAT A FUN EVENT! WE DO THIS EACH YEAR WITH OUR FRIENDS FROM HONOR SOCIETY. YOU WILL HAVE A GREAT TIME AND THE FOLKS OVER AT VERDI ARE MOST GRATEFUL FOR OUR HELP. SIGN UPS START AT OUR FIRST MEETING IN AUGUST. THEY ARE ALREADY PLANNING THIS WONDERFUL EVENT FOR THEIR KIDS.
OCTOBER 20, 21, & 22: McQUEEN CRAFT FAIRE. ALL MEMBERS ARE REQUIRED TO VOLUNTEER FOR TWO HOURS AT THIS EVENT. THERE IS AN URGENT NEED RIGHT AFTER SCHOOL ON FRIDAY, OCTOBER 20. TIME IS LIMITED SINCE FRIDAY IS ADULTS ONLY. YOU WOULD BEGIN WORK AFTER SCHOOL AND MUST BE GONE BY 5PM WHEN THE EVENT STARTS. HELP IS ALSO NEEDED AT 4PM SHARP ON SUNDAY, OCTOBER 22 TO HELP PEOPLE PACK UP. YOU MAY SELECT ANY HOURS THAT WORK WITH YOUR SCHEDULE FOR THOSE DAYS. DURING YOUR 2 HOURS, YOU WILL BE WORKING AS A MEMBER OF KNIGHTS AND LADIES. YOU MUST SIGN IN WITH THE TIMEKEEPER IN THE JROTC HALL. SOMEBODY WILL BE POSTED THERE FOR THE ENTIRE EVENT. YOU MUST REMEMBER TO SIGN OUT WHEN YOU LEAVE. THIS IS ALSO DONE IN THE JROTC HALL WITH THE TIMEKEEPER. IF YOU FAIL TO BOTH SIGN IN AND SIGN OUT, YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE CREDIT FOR YOUR HOURS.
OCTOBER 24: KTMB FALL CLEAN UP. MEET IN ROOM 205 RIGHT AFTER SCHOOL. THIS EVENT WAS RESCHEDULED DUE TO BAD WEATHER IN SEPTEMBER. WE DO TWO OF THESE EACH YEAR. THE NEXT ONE WILL BE IN THE SPRING. ALL MEMBERS ARE REQUIRED TO DO ONE OF THESE. THIS IS A VERY GREAT FUN, HAPPY EVENT WHICH WE DO FOR OUR COMMUNITY TWICE PER YEAR. SIGN UPS WILL BE AT THE MEETING.
November 8: VOLUNTEERS TO HELP WITH CHILD CARE AND BRIDGE CHURCH ON FOSTER DRIVE.
We could use help watching kids infant to 12ish years old on 11/8 5:30-7:30 pm at the Bridge Church on Foster Drive. I can sign off on hours, etc. Most of them are foster children and the parents will be at the church, but receiving training.

NOVEMBER 11: VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED FOR THIS YEAR'S VETERAN'S DAY PARADE. HELP IS NEEDED:
- To set up the parade load at the Courthouse Parking Lot from 7-9am
- passing out flags and helping with the announcer booth from 9-11am
- helping with the parade logistics and order from 11-2pm

DECEMBER 2: Santaland at Westergaard Elementary from 8am - 12pm. A super fun event that we love to help out with. Sign ups happened at our October meeting. If you would like to go and missed the sign up, let us know at our November meeting so that we can advise the event coordinator that you would like to help.
FEBRUARY 11: Reno Run 4 Love, 8:30 AM, Reno Ballroom. Fundraiser for Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada. Use the link below to volunteer.
FEBRUARY 22: The Boys and Girls Club is having their annual Crab Feed and Auction fundraiser on February 22nd. They need volunteers to help set up from around 12pm to 3:30pm that day. They have this opportunity posted on VolunteerMatch with more information regarding the event and contact information.
FEBRUARY 28: Eighth Grade Parent Night in the gym. Help man our table & explain who we are to parents and what we can offer incoming freshmen. Info was discussed and made available at our Frebruary monthly meeting.
A virtual volunteer opportunity on VolunteerMatch.com which includes spreading information about MS through social media as well as other opportunities. MARCH 11: The Discovery Museum is looking for volunteers for the annual Leprechaun Race on Sunday, March 11th from 7:30 AM - 10:30 AM. This event was offered last year & was described as great fun by the students who felt fortunate to get to volunteer for something that was such a good time! It is a 5k race that is organized by Race 178 and benefits The Discovery Museum. They mainly need volunteers to act as Course Marshalls. These people line the race course, prevent cars from driving through, and cheer on the racers. You need to dress warmly and Discovery will provide everything else. This is a great opportunity to support The Discovery and Race 178 at a fun community event! Sign up at our February monthly meeting. APRIL 14: Reno's Biggest Little Half Marathon. This event was discussed at our February monthly meetting. Here is the link to volunteer: Reno's Biggest Little Half Marathon
APRIL 26: Spring KTMB clean up. This is our second and final clean up for the year. This date was finalized by the board members. All members are required to do at least one of the two clean ups per year. If you missed the first one, you must come to this one and all members are asked to participate. Check back here to see any additional information as the date approaches.
ONGOING: Nevada Humane Society has several wonderful opportunities. They need volunteers and there is a variety of ways you can help with tasks such as walking the dogs or socializing the cats. Some of the opportunities are less direct hands on with the animals and all opportunities are designed to make the lives of the animals better. The Humane Society is privately funded and they work in close cooperation with Reno Animal Services. If you care about animals, this is likely to be an opportunity you will truly enjoy. ONGOING: Volunteer tutors are needed to offer math support for kindergarten through 5th grade students who are doing math below grade level. Volunteers are screened and trained on math games designed to increase a student's "number sense." Tutoring may be one on one or in a small group. Volunteers receive a Math Paths kit with their training and then are placed in a school of their choice. Minimum commitment is 1 hour per week for a semester! ONGOING: MOPS meetings at Covenant Presbyterian Church meet the first and third Wednesday of every month 5:45 - 7:45 pm until May. We have participated in this event for many years and students enjoy working with the little ones. The adult who is present at the MOPS meeting can sign off on your hours or Mrs. Smith here at McQueen can also sign off if you come to see her here at school.
