I am in my 19th year of teaching, with all of it at the middle school level where I have enjoyed the students and content a great deal. My first two years were as a Special Education teacher, which gave me a great deal of knowledge on accommodating diverse-needs students and the importance of honoring student IEPs. In my career I have served as department chair and as a member of district and Nevada Department of Education committees.
I grew up in Great Falls, MT but graduated high school in Carlin, NV. I am a graduate of the University of Nevada, receiving my bachelor's degree in education in 1999 and my master's degree in teaching history in 2012. In 2017 I completed National Board Certification, the highest level an educator can attain.
I was fortunate to be awarded a James Madison Memorial Fellowship in 2009, and was named the News Channel 4 Excellence in Education recipient in November of 2009. In 2014 I was presented with the WEA Distinguished Educator Award. I was also honored to serve as past president of the Northern Nevada Council for the Social Studies, past delegate to the National Council for the Social Studies Board of Delegates, and past member of the National Technology Committee.
Outside of school I am a rabid baseball fan (Go Cubs!) and a private pilot. I volunteer my time through the Civil Air Patrol, the USAF Auxiliary. It conducts 91% of all inland-US search and rescue missions and is a program that I enthusiastically recommend to everyone.
I am very fortunate to be married to my lovely wife Jaimie and we are raising our two daughters, Reagan and Kaitlyn, in south Reno.
Please let me know how I can help your child!
