2016-17 School Year Information:
The SAB is the voice of Washoe County School District students.The Washoe County School District (WCSD) Student Advisory Board (SAB) consists of 28 students from district high schools. SAB is an exceptional team of student leaders who engage with school district staff and the Trustees in active, meaningful conversation. The students' input, ideas and advocacy are welcomed by the Trustees. The students consider a wide range of topics, including anti-bullying initiatives, cultural competency, school procedures and possible changes to the school calendar, among other issues.The Washoe County School District Board of Trustees and Student Advisory Board are proud to have Kaydi Deutsch, from TMCC High School, as the Chair of the Student Advisory Board and Student Representative to the Board of Trustees for the 2016-17 school year. Joko Cailles, of Wooster High School, was selected as the Vice-Chair and Student Representative to the Board of Trustees' Safe and Healthy Schools Commission.As the Chair of the Student Advisory Board, Ms. Deutsch also serves as the non-voting Student Representative on the Washoe County School District's Board of Trustees. The Chair is selected annually through an application process by the Board of Trustees.Two members of the Board of Trustees serve as liaisons to the Student Advisory Board. Those Trustees attend and help facilitate each SAB meeting and garner feedback from the students, which they can then share with the entire Board of Trustees to help guide its decisions.Trustees Scott Kelley and John Mayer are the current Board of Trustees liaisons.

The SAB meets about once a month following the start of each new school year. During the summer, student representatives get together to help shape the program for the upcoming school year. The program is student-driven and provides learning opportunities for Trustees, students and staff in a relaxed and respectful environment.
The SAB is open to all high school students within WCSD seeking to develop student advocacy and leadership skills. Please contact your principal if you are interested in being part of the team!
