E. Otis Vaughn Middle School

  • Vaughn Middle School rebuild approved  by WCSD Board of Trustees

Washoe County School District (WCSD) will rebuild E. Otis Vaughn Middle School based on the recommendation of our consultant, CannonDesign, who was hired to conduct a district-wide school facilities assessment to provide options for major capital projects over the next fifteen years and beyond.

In terms of adequacy, safety and a building that has outlived its useful life, the consultant recommended the full replacement/rebuild of Vaughn Middle School. The WCSD Board of Trustees approved the design phase of the project and that work is underway.

In December 2023, drawings will be submitted for permit. In February 2024, we will seek funding approval for the project from the WCSD Board of Trustees. The bid process is expected in February-March 2024. Construction will likely begin in June 2024 and the anticipated opening of the rebuilt Vaughn Middle School would be in 2026. Project work will continue with the demolition of the ‘old’ school building once staff and students move into the new facility with project completion in 2027.
