    Dear Bohach Families,

A few reminders for the upcoming weeks at Bohach:

Finishing up testing! A Big thank you to the students, teachers and parents for their efforts during our 3rd-5th grade testing. Great Job! We will continue make up testing through May 12 because of this week’s bus blackout.

Student Laptop Return: For our students in grades 3-5 who have been issued a school take home laptop, we will begin laptop turn on May 20. Each class will have a specific day and time that they will come down to the STEAM lab and turn in their laptops. Students will be issued the same device next year if they are returning. If your child has damaged or lost the laptop or charger, please expect to be charged in accordance with the tech agreement.

Yearbook Sales: We additional copies of the yearbook available for purchase beginning May 12. Price is $30 cash or check only, made out to Bohach ES. For details, talk with your child's teacher or call the office at 775-626-0062

Spring Events: This spring we will be having several fun and exciting events including Field Day and Day of Dance. Please start preparing now for sunscreen, disposable labeled water bottle and well-fitting sneakers for those days. Sunscreen is already in stock at Wal Mart and Costco and we all know how quickly it seems to disappear. Teachers will update you on specifics for these and any other events that your child will have to look forward to this spring.

Pickup and Dropoff: Parent pickup and dropoff is ONLY in the front of the school in the parking lot that we share with Sky Ranch Middle School. PLEASE DO NOT PICK UP OR DROP OFF in the staff parking lot at Windmill Farms Parkway and David Allen. This lot is reserved for staff parking, busses, daycare vans and before and afterschool program ONLY. A lot of activity takes place in this lot and adding additional pedestrians is not feasible. Please respect this rule for no drop off in the staff lot.

Online Registration: Each year families are required to RENEW and update their child’s registration for the upcoming school year. In order to correctly staff our school buildings and help ensure we have enough teachers, families must update their registration. Please log in to the parent portal and update your child’s registration. This is the link: https://washoenv.infinitecampus.org/campus/portal/washoe.jsp

WCSD COVID-19 self screener: WCSD created an updated screener. It is available here: https://www.washoeschools.net/site/handlers/filedownload.ashx?moduleinstanceid=36853&dataid=55365&FileName=WCSD%20Screening%20for%20COVID19%2001-15-2022.pdf

We want you to feel comfortable at Bohach. If you need help or if your experience is not excellent, please let us know. We have three sacred promises at Bohach: we will keep your child safe, we will love them and we will make sure they learn. CODE RED DRILL Tuesday 4/12: Bohach, like all schools, is required to complete frequent safety drills. Throughout the year we practice fire drills and evacuations as well as code yellow lockdowns and code red drills. Teachers work with students throughout the drill process to ensure that the content is taught in an age appropriate and supportive way. Next Tuesday morning we will be completing a Code Red Drill. Code Red drills help us to practice the ways we would work to keep kids safe in the unlikely event of an active assailant on campus. The drill will begin at 10:15 and will run until we have checked in with each classroom. Phone calls and pickup/dropoff will be temporarily unavailable while we conduct this important drill.

    Dear Bohach Families,

A few reminders for the upcoming weeks at Bohach:

There is no school Monday, February 21 in observance of Presidents’ Day.

IMPORTANT Transportation Changes: because of critical shortages in bus drivers, WCSD will be offering busses on a rotating basis. Next week Bohach will not have bus service. This suspension of service will take place every fourth week for the rest of the school year. For planning purposes, please note no busses on these weeks:  2/22-2/25, 4/4-4/8, 5/2-5/6, 5/31-6/3

If you are unable to arrange for transportation, your child can be temporarily placed on distance learning. Please contact your child’s teacher or contact our school office at 775-626-0062.

Our teachers are also helping to connect families that need rides or can offer rides, so please get in touch with your child’s teacher of you need or can offer a ride.

Please see below for a detailed message from WCSD:

From Tuesday, February 22 to Friday, February 25, students in Area 2 will not receive bus service.

Affected elementary schools in Area 2 are: Allen, Bennett, Bohach, Hall, Mathews, Palmer, Sepulveda, Spanish Springs, Sun Valley, Taylor, and Van Gorder.

Affected middle schools in Area 2 are: Desert Skies, Shaw, Sky Ranch, and Traner.

Affected high schools in Area 2 are: Hug and Spanish Springs.

Again, the schools just listed will not receive bus service from Tuesday, February 22 to Friday, February 25 because of the critical shortage of drivers.

The following week—from Monday, February 28 to Friday, March 4— bus services for students in Area 2 will be reinstated, and transportation for students in Area 3 and Area 4 will be suspended.

A list of the areas and the rotation schedules can be found at www.washoeschools.net/transportation.

While we hope no further changes will be needed, we will make sure to keep you informed should staff shortages worsen and further reductions be needed.

BOHACH: On March 11 we will be commemorating the birthday of our namesake, John C. Bohach. This year we are inviting first responders to come celebrate with us. We are excited to be hosting many different first responders. This will be a unique opportunity for students to meet and have a positive interaction with these folks and likewise a chance for them to meet our wonderful students. If you see a large number of emergency vehicles on that day, do not be alarmed, they are here to celebrate John’s birthday with us.

Like always, if you feel that we are not achieving these goals for you or your child, please reach out to us!!! Our office is available daily until 4:00. If you need anything please reach out. I am readily accessible by email and will follow up within 24 hours (usually sooner). My email is hgavrilles@washoeschools.net

    Dear Bohach Families,

A few reminders for the upcoming weeks at Bohach:

Conference Week: Next week 2/14-2/17 is conference week and students will be dismissed at 1:20 each day.

Updated Mask Policy: If you did not see the updated WCSD mask policy, the full message from the district is included below:

    Dear WCSD families,

As you have most likely heard, this morning Gov. Sisolak rescinded Nevada’s mask mandate in public places, including schools throughout our state. Read the Governor’s directive here

Following this decision, masks will be optional for all staff and students in the Washoe County School District by the end of today, Thursday February 10.

Please be advised that masks remain federally mandated on all school buses across the nation and mask wearing will be enforced on all of our district buses and charter buses.

We will continue to submit our plan on COVID-19 mitigation in coordination with our local health authority, the Washoe County Health District, as discussed at the last Board of Trustees meeting.  That plan will be presented to the Board of Trustees at the March 8 meeting.

At the end of today, masks are optional, but please remember that all of our employees, students, and families must feel safe and secure. If students, families, staff members, or visitors wish to remain masked, they should be made comfortable and their decision will be respected. Human Resources will continue to work with individuals with ADA accommodations. Masks will still be available at school sites for those who wish to use them.

The mandatory testing of NIAA athletes and those leaving the county will end as of February 27, 2022.

Please remember, that all of our other COVID-19 mitigation efforts in our schools continue to be in place. Please practice frequent handwashing and self screening before starting the work day.

We will be sending out guidance as this situation develops. Thank you

New traffic pattern at drop off and pick up: Thank you for your help as we work to help implement systems. The cones in front of the stop sign will remain during the morning only. Please respect the cones.

Spring Conferences: Bohach will dismiss at 1:20 daily during spring conference IN TWO WEEKS, February 14-18.

Drop off and pickup: Please heed our warning here. WE HAD A NEAR MISS AT DROPOFF on 1/21/22. A MOTHER AND TODDLER WERE NEARLY HIT IN THE CROSSWALK. THERE IS NO DROPOFF AT RED CURBS. THE PARKING LOT SPEED LIMIT IS 10 MPH. We have also had two vehicles ticketed and fines in school zones are DOUBLE. For everyone’s safety, please drop off at yellow curbs only. Obey the speed limit, put your phones down and PAY ATTENTION. Being in a rush is NOT more important than our lives and livelihood.

    From 1/7:

Transportation updates: Due to scheduling changes stemming from critical staffing shortages we are experiencing many late busses. Transportation typically notifies families when the bus is more than 30 minutes late. Often at the school, we do not know when the bus is coming until it gets here. We understand how difficult this is on families and are working with transportation on solutions. We are also very appreciative of our drivers and bus duty teachers who are going above and beyond to ensure student safety even beyond their normal workday.

New plan for smoke days/snow days: WCSD has used 2 contingency days and will be holding classes on June 6 and 7. The next school day that is canceled will necessitate another contingency day, June 8. After we have used all three contingency days there will be a cancelation day where no classes are held. Subsequent days will be virtual learning days.

Days 1 and 2: smoke days called in fall—makeup instruction on June 6 and 7—already utilized.

Day 3* of WCSD canceled classes (has not yet occurred) will trigger the third and final contingency day, June 8.

Day 4* of WCDS cancelation (has not yet occurred) would trigger a CANCELLATION DAY—no classes for students, teachers and staff report as usual to prepare full distance learning if necessary.

Day 5*+ of WCSD canceled classes, instruction would move to full DISTANCE LEARNING

*these days have not yet been utilized for the 21-22 school year.

We want you to feel comfortable at Bohach. If you need help or if your experience is not excellent, please let us know. We have three sacred promises at Bohach: we will keep your child safe, we will love them and we will make sure they learn.
