Dear Bohach Families,
For our new families, welcome and to our returning families, welcome back!
A few reminders for the upcoming events before school starts and the first week of school at Bohach:
The first day of school for 1st through 5th grade is Monday, August 12
Drop off and pickup: Dropoff and pick up take place in the front of the school in the shared parking lot with Sky Ranch Middle School ONLY. There is no dropoff or pickup on the (west) Pyramid HWY side. You are encouraged to PARK and walk with your child if you would like to accompany them. The playground opens at 9:10, first bell rings at 9:25 and parents do not come into the building in observance of best safety practices.
Kindergarten classes start on Monday, August 19 and please make sure you schedule a kindergarten screening for your child. Contact the office at 775-626-0062 for more info. On August 19, parents may line up with their child and may not enter the school building. You will need to plan to say goodbye at the door. A brief kindergarten parent meeting will take place at 9:30 in the cafeteria (enter through door 10 or door 11 on the playground side).
WCSD school calendars: The WCSD 24-25 school year calendar is available at https://www.washoeschools.net/site/handlers/filedownload.ashx?moduleinstanceid=52618&dataid=69680&FileName=2024-2025%20BALANCED%20CALENDAR.pdf
Who is my child’s teacher? Your child’s schedule went live TODAY? Find out in the Infinite Campus Parent Portal by logging in at https://washoenv.infinitecampus.org/campus/portal/washoe.jsp
Personal electronic devices: WCSD, like many other districts is working on strengthening student engagement in our classrooms and this necessitates enforcing stronger guidelines around personal student devices (cellphones and smart watches). Our staff will be asking students to have these devices in the off position during instructional time. Please see the WCSD policy for more detail, available at:
Class supply lists: lists of recommended supplies and fees are posted on our website, available through the main Bohach page, link on the left side, click on “Class Supply Lists” or at: https://www.washoeschools.net/Page/15664
Bohach Website: We have information, resources and links available on our school website. This includes a staff directory, links to our PFO, curriculum information, as well as mission, vision, values. Our website is found at:
https://www.washoeschools.net/bohach
Dismissal is at 3:30 daily. We will dismiss all students at 3:30. Siblings who meet up after school are strongly encouraged to designate a meeting place outside of the school building starting the first day of school. Work with your kids to find a spot on the playground or front of the school to meet up after 3:30.
We want you to feel comfortable at Bohach. If you need help or if your experience is not excellent, please let us know. We have three sacred promises at Bohach: we will keep your child safe, we will love them and we will make sure they learn. Like always, if you feel that we are not achieving these goals for you or your child, please reach out to us!!! Our office is available daily until 4:00. If you need anything please reach out. Dear Bohach Families,
A few reminders for the upcoming week of school at Bohach:
Thank you for everyone’s continued support. The foundation of school success for all of our nighthawks is a partnership based on mutual respect and trust.
New Content:
Conference week: Fall conferences will be taking place from October 21-October 27. That is THIS FRIDAY THROUGH NEXT THURSDAY.
DISMISSAL WILL TAKE PLACE DAILY AT 1:20 on the following days:
FRIDAY, 10/21
MONDAY, 10/24
TUESDAY, 10/25
WEDNESDAY, 10/26
THURSDAY, 10/27
NO SCHOOL FRIDAY 10/28 in observance of Nevada Day.
Please watch for information from your child’s teacher to sign up for a conference time. Zoom will once again be the preferred format for conferences. We received excellent feedback from our families and teacher on how effective and efficient that format is. If you prefer another format, please work directly with your child’s teacher.
APEX fundraiser: Each year our school has one major fundraiser to help support student success. This fundraiser is used to ensure technology sustainability and help support student and teacher incentives. This year’s fundraiser will begin on 10/24 and the fun run event will take place on 11/3. Thank you for your support.
Nevada School Performance Framework results: each year the state of Nevada releases school designations. We are thrilled to share with our families that our students and staff at Bohach received a stunning score overall of 91.5/100 possible points. This reflects student learning overall, growth, narrowing achievement gaps and language attainment. Congratulations your child attends one of the best schools in the state of Nevada. Bohach scored #5 in the state of Nevada and #2 in WCSD among public schools and #1 in WCSD among non-magnet schools!!
WEEKLY COVID UPDATE:. Your child was potentially exposed to COVID-19 this week. We had 0 people test positive in our school this week. There are no exclusions based on exposure. Please continue to use the District’s COVID self-screener (the screening tool) every day before leaving for school and be vigilant about handwashing and other measures to keep yourself safe throughout the day. This past week we had # positive COVID cases. Although we are no longer excluding students and adults who may have been in close contact with an individual having COVID, in a school setting exposure is always a possibility. If you or your child is experiencing any symptoms outlined on the self-screener, please follow those directions closely. Additional guidance regarding what to do if you are ill or if you have been in close contact can be found here (this webpage).
Repeat Content:
Parking: You have got to be kidding me. AGAIN? Help a friend out!!!! Parking for pickup and drop off is in the MAIN PARKING LOT. There is no student pickup and drop off from the southwest lot. The small lot located by the side of the school is reserved for staff, busses and daycare vans. This week there was more than one altercation between parents and daycare vans, parents and staff, illegal parking in fire zones, and many argumentative interactions and student safety was put in danger. We have had one child hit and several near misses. If your child’s safety were threatened, you would expect us to step it up. Please respect our rules and systems to ensure everyone’s sanity and safety.
Do you need help?: Please be aware that we are a rapidly growing school. We serve 800 children in nearly 1000 households and daily host almost 900 people on our campus. Our combined dropoff loop serves 2,200 students, Your child is valued, you are valued and we need to be systematic about communications and meetings. If you need help, your child's teacher is the first point of contact. If you need the support of an administrator, we are happy to help and that should happen after the child's teacher has been made aware of the issue and other resources are needed. When our school was small impromptu meetings were feasible. That is no longer the case. Please let us know and give us 24-48 hours to respond to your request. We are here for you and we have a chain of command that we would appreciate families respecting.
Food in classrooms/special events: Due to increasing allergy concerns we are asking families to send non-food items to mark special days such as a child’s birthday. This rule is meant to keep all students healthy and not leave children out. Your help with this is greatly appreciated.
Rude? Mean? Bullying?: When children are at home, we as parents want to fix their pain right away. We want the same thing for your children at school! If something does not feel right, let us know at school right away by reporting to a duty teacher or their classroom teacher. Reporting right away allows us the best chance of successfully solving the issue. Waiting even a few hours makes it difficult for us to get a clear picture of what happened. When we are working with students who are involved in a peer conflict we are actively trying to figure out—was this a rude action, a mean action or was it bullying? While all three are dealt with, all three are not tolerated, our intervention with the child acting out is quite different based on which of these behaviors they are displaying.
Rude = Inadvertently saying or doing something that hurts someone else.
Mean = Purposefully saying or doing something to hurt someone once (or maybe twice).
Bullying = Intentionally aggressive behavior, repeated over time, that often involves an imbalance of power and results in harm or threat of harm, action is severe, persistent, pervasive
Voicemail: If you miss a call from Bohach, 775-626-0062, please take a few minutes and check your voicemail. All outgoing calls show that same number, including our automated calls. This included connect ed calls, attendance reminders, health office calls, teacher phone calls, nutrition services, etc. We have a large staff and taking a few minutes to identify who you need to reconnect with is super helpful for us and will result in faster service for you.
Portables at Bohach: You are likely aware that Bohach has two portables on the playground. These portables contain four total classrooms. These portables are hosting second grade classes this year. The decision to have second grades in the portables was made because of class sizes. Second grade has a teacher to student ratio that makes the portables our best option. Kinder classes and older classes are much larger. Placing second grade in the mobiles allows our second graders to benefit from smaller classes with more individualized attention.
Other Transportation Information:
You will find information concerning bus routes and schedules by going onto the Washoe County School District website, https://www.washoeschools.net/Domain/73. Families are advised to register their students for bus service. You can then click on the “E-Link” for bus schedules and/or the “Find Your Zoned School” link to find out what school zone you are in.
Early Release Wednesdays: Wednesdays will continue as early release days, and dismissal takes place most Wednesdays at 2:45. This allows our teacher teams to meet and plan their work together. See calendar for more details.

Dear Bohach Families,
A few reminders for the upcoming week of school at Bohach:
Thank you for everyone’s continued support. The foundation of school success for all of our nighthawks is a partnership based on mutual respect and trust.
New Content:
New Allocations: As you might know, each year the Washoe County School District goes through a process of balancing the number of teachers at all schools and can add or subtract teachers as enrollment fluctuates. Bohach was fortunate to receive an additional allocation from the Washoe County School District based on our high enrollment in 4th grade. We are excited to begin this new class on 10/17/22. We have also received additional support in third grade and special education resource. We are thankful to be adding new team members and are also thankful for everyone’s support during this time of transition for some of our students and teachers. Details will follow for those impacted by these additional allocations.
Fall Break: Fall break is coming. There will be no classes NEXT week, October 3-7. Classes will resume on October 10.

This is no longer necessary so we will dismiss all students at 3:30. Siblings who meet up after school are strongly encouraged to designate a meeting place outside of the school building starting the first day of school. Work with your kids to find a spot on the playground or front of the school to meet up after 3:30.

Dear Bohach Families,
A few reminders for the upcoming week of school at Bohach:
Thank you for everyone’s continued support. The foundation of school success for all of our nighthawks is a partnership based on mutual respect and trust.
New/Important Content:
Bus Blackout this upcoming week: Next week, September 19-25 there will be no bus service in Area 2 which includes Bohach, Sky Ranch Middle School and Spanish Springs High School.
AQI: as you know, our region has been affected by nearby wildfires and our air quality has suffered. At school we use a variety of monitors as well as a common sense approach to make decisions regarding outside activities. We monitor air quality data as well as observe local coditions to make decisins about having children outside and use guidelines form WCSD and the Washoe County Health Department to guide our decisions. WCSD will close down schools when the AQI is above 300 and forecast to stay that way. More information is availabel at: https://www.washoeschools.net/airquality
Nevada School Performance Framework results: each year the state of Nevada releases school designations. We are thrilled to share with our families that our students and staff at Bohach recieved a stunning score overall of 91.5/100 possible points. This reflects student learning overall, growth, narrowing achievement gaps and language attainment. Congratulations your child attends one of the best schools in the state of Nevada.
WEEKLY COVID UPDATE:. Your child was potentially exposed to COVID-19 this week. We had 2 people test positive in our school this week.

Dear Bohach Families,
A few reminders for the upcoming week of school at Bohach:
Thank you to all who participated in our back to school night. It was wonderful to see so many families in our school. The foundation of school success for all of our nighthawks is a partnership based on mutual respect and trust.

Dismissal is at 3:30 daily except for Wednesdays (Wednesdays are 2:45 dismissal). COVID restrictions necessitated a staggered dismissal during our first two school years. This is no longer necessary so we will dismiss all students at 3:30. Siblings who meet up after school are strongly encouraged to designate a meeting place outside of the school building starting the first day of school. Work with your kids to find a spot on the playground or front of the school to meet up after 3:30.
Bus transportation resumes next week. The next transportation blackout for Area 2, including Bohach, Sky Ranch Middle School and Spanish Springs High School will take place in September 19-23.
Back to School Night: We are excited to welcome families into the building for back to school night on Wednesday, August 31 from 4:00-6:00. This will allow you to receive information from your child’s teacher and tour our beautiful, state-of-the-art school building.
Please also be aware that the blue curb in the drop off zone is reserved for those with DMV disabled persons placards or plates. The minimum fine for parking without the appropriate placard or plate is $250.
WEEKLY COVID UPDATE: During the week of 8/22-8/26 your student was potentially exposed to the COVID positive individuals. We are aware of 3 positive cases. Please be vigilant about handwashing and keeping your student home when they are experiencing symptoms of illness. We are not excluding people who have been exposed to a positive person. Again, we are not excluding exposed persons. However, if your child feels ill, they should stay home. Please use the screening tool if your child has symptoms of illness. Our screening tool and the most up to date guidance can be found at our district COVID-19 website.
The following classrooms had students who attended while infectious on the following dates:
Kindergarten, Mrs. Todd’s class on 8/24 and 8/25
Portables at Bohach: You are likely aware that Bohach has two portables on the playground.
Other Transportation Information: You will find information concerning bus routes and schedules by going onto the Washoe County School District website, https://www.washoeschools.net/Domain/73. Families are advised to register their students for bus service. You can then click on the “E-Link” for bus schedules and/or the “Find Your Zoned School” link to find out what school zone you are in.
Transportation reimbursement: WCSD is offering some reimbursement for some families during bus blackouts, please see https://www.washoeschools.net/Page/18142 for details.
Yogurt Beach Fundraiser: We are excited to be partnering with the Yogurt Beach on Los Altos at Sparks Crossing for a fundraiser on August 24. Proceeds will support student and staff incentives. Please let them know you are there for the Bohach Fundraiser.
Early Release Wednesdays: Wednesdays will continue as early release days, and dismissal takes place most Wednesdays at 2:45. This allows our teacher teams to meet and plan their work together. See calendar for more details.
