• Back to School GT Program Updates as of 10/27/2020

    Gifted Programming

We will continue to update this site as new information becomes available. Our GT team has been working around the clock to provide students with the highest caliber of gifted services in all possible options available to families. We thank you for your continual patience during these challenging times.

    GEMS Model

GT GEMS programming at each site varies depending on principal discretion. Please check back for further information on individual site programming.

Facilitators: Judith Lombard Currier, Bonnie Pillaro

    • Billinghurst MS
      • Students who are receiving in person learning will continue to receive GT services through the GEMS model with their GT endorsed teachers. Students who are doing distance learning will be enrolled in Edgunity with the appropriate curriculum content, and in addition will receive Project Based Learning (PBL) online units with a GT endorsed teacher.
    • Depoali MS
    • Drake ES
      • Students will be assigned a site based GT mentor and will be seen daily. If a student participates in distance learning a book study will be provided with their GT mentor
    • Herz MS
      • Students identified as GT have the option to come every day or every other day or participate via full distance learning.  The GEMS classes at MHMS have a mix of GT and non-GT students.  This means that some students will come every other day.  Others will attend every day.  The teacher will be repeating the lesson that the at home students did not receive.  This means that the every day students will hear the same lesson twice.  We are working on plans to provide opportunities for differentiation, enrichment and extension for GT students that choose to attend every day.  Being here every day will also allow the teacher to provide assistance as needed while they complete the at home work that was assigned on the previous day.
    • Incline ES
      • We are a GEMS model school with each grade level having its own GT teacher.  This year, elementary school students have the choice to learn At Home or At School.  GT-endorsed teachers, then, will provide small group instruction to GT students virtually during the school day to allow both At Home and At School students a chance to meet together for ELA and math at-level instruction. In addition, project-based instruction in science and social science will be designed to support our GT learners.
    • Melton ES
      • Students who are receiving in person learning will continue to receive GT services through the GEMS model at Rollan Melton. Students who chose to do distance learning will receive Project Based Learning (PBL) online learning with a GT endorsed teacher, along with the normal curriculum taught at Rollan Melton from the distance learning teacher.
    • Van Gorder ES
      • Students that are receiving "in-person" learning will continue to receive GT services from a GT endorsed teacher through an in class and Project Based Learning (PBL) model. Students that are receiving distance learning, will have options of completing PBL or a book study with one of our GT endorsed teacher.

    SWAS Model

The goal of the GT SWAS program is to mirror our GT SWAS curriculum standards in either in-person or distance learning options. Please check back for further information as it becomes available.

    Itinerant Model

All GT identified students in elementary or middle school who are not being serviced through the SWAS, GEMS, or Magnet program will be offered gifted services through our itinerant GT endorsed teachers. Our signature Project Based Learning (PBL) units will be offered for either in person or distance learning options.

      • Carol Larsson
      • Carol Yparraguirre
      • Sherron Jones

All itinerants will be providing support to District assigned school sites during the first week of school. Due to rapidly changing enrollment numbers for distant learning, GT teacher allocations are currently being redistributed for coverage. If the District closes, the normally assigned site GT teacher will revert back to his or her original assignments.

    GATE Institute Model

Students attending our Institute will follow the school sites plan for either in person or distance learning options with continual support of our GT endorsed teachers.

    Distance Learning Technology Needs

If your GT student has selected distance learning and does not have a device at home, please contact your school site administrator or the facilitator for your child's program in GT to make a request.  The GT office will contact you after the request is submitted to make arrangements to check out a device.
