Opening fields/facilities for sports and athletics in Washoe County School District
On June 9, 2020, Governor Sisolak issued the following pertaining to Nevada school district’s opening fields/facilities for sports and athletics:
Declaration of Emergency Directive 022. Section 7
County school districts, charter schools, and private schools may reopen school athletic fields and facilities for student athletics training, practices, and competition in accordance with guidance promulgated by the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association (NIAA) and any applicable conditions set forth by directive regarding athletic events.
Based on this directive, WCSD is planning to open fields/facilities for sports and athletics in accordance with the guidelines provided by the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association. Washoe County School District is working with the NIAA, all coaches and athletic directors to develop plans and protocols around student athlete health and safety. Implementation, complete with training of those involved, is in progress and the District is planning to resume Fall NIAA sports as soon as July 6, 2020.
In preparation for the July 6, 2020 opening of District athletic fields and facilities, there will be a mandatory training for any fall sports coaches and Athletic administrators who plan on hosting summer practices. The purpose of this mandatory training, to be facilitated by WCSD Student Activities & Athletics Coordinator Rollins Stallworth, District Health Services personnel, and District Facilities personnel, is to provide clear direction and information about the requirements each coach and student athlete must follow in order to access District athletic fields and facilities.
Student athletes can expect to receive information and details from coaches at their respective schools. Each coach is required to submit a written plan for approval before training can begin.
