    COMPLETED OPPORTUNITES FOR 2020-2021 SCHOOL YEAR: 

      

    FIRST  SEMESTER: Kings Row Community Center- This is a full distance learning center who is looking for volunteer tutors to help elementary to middle school students (ages 6-14) with Zoom, Teams & school assignments.  If any of you are good with tech, they also need help setting up computers.  The after school program runs from 3-6pm and you can schedule hours with them. They are open on smoke days and can use help then if you are not too busy with your own classes. To get more information, sign up. 

     

    Nevada Humane Society has several wonderful opportunities.  They need volunteers and there are a variety of ways you can help with tasks such as walking the dogs or socializing the cats. Some of the opportunities are less direct hands-on with the animals and all opportunities are designed to make the lives of the animals better.  The Humane Society is privately funded and they work in close cooperation with Reno Animal Services. If you care about animals, this is likely to be an opportunity you will truly enjoy. 

     

    Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful (KTMB) is a community nonprofit that seeks to promote conservation and beautification of our community. KTMB sponsors many community clean up and beautification events.  McQueen has a local adopt-a-spot through this organization.

     

    Food Bank of Northern Nevada has some volunteer opportunities. There are several different events available through the scroll located on the site. Any FBNN events listed are good for approved hours.

     

     Sept. 26 KTMB, from 9am to noon: 17th annual Truckee River Clean Up Day, for approved hours.  I am enclosing the notice along with the links.  Please consider signing up and supporting KTMB. Did you know that the Truckee River supplies about 85 percent of the water used in homes and businesses in the Reno/Sparks area? Please help to keep our river clean and pristine! KTMB is pleased to announce the volunteer signups f are live! The event will take place on Saturday, September 26th from 9am to noon. There are many family-friendly events, so bring the whole family!Lastly, if you find closer to the date of the event that you cannot make it, PLEASE cancel yourself out of your spot so someone else can register! Safety is the priority at KTMB, for details on what we are doing to keep you and your family safe: .  Hope to see you out there and thanks for supporting KTMB!

      

    Oct. 13 KTMB, McQueen community Fall Clean Up from 2:45 pm - 3:45 pm: This is one of two neighborhood clean ups that we do each year.  All students are required to both this year. Meet Mrs. M. at the school entrance about 2:45 pm.  We will get the supplies and do the clean up.  With everyone present it should last an hour or less. 

     

    Oct. 23  Rollan Melton Elementary 4:30 - 6pm drive thru & 6-8 pm Virtual: Students have helped our feeder school out with their Harvest Festival in the past.  This year they are planning an in person event where families stay in their car, drive through fun stations & leave with goodie bags. The virtual has Halloween Zoom Rooms & 2 magic shows.  Melton needs 30 minute shifts from each of us. Masks are required if you volunteer for the in person event. They need virtual asap as it requires advance planning.  IMPORTANT: IF YOU SIGN UP, YOU MUST SHOW UP!

    KTMB Great Community Cleanup on May 1st, 2021!   KTMB’s Great Community Cleanup’s focuses on the problems invasive weeds cause for native ecosystems and the hazards posed by illegal dumping in our open spaces. By tackling these problems head on, we have the opportunity to improve our regions sustainability for years to come. Volunteers will join us at local parks and open spaces to complete projects that improve the health of our local environment by completing projects that address our focus areas. Projects will range from litter pickup to invasive weed removal to the cleanup of illegal dumpsites and much more.
