This Month in 6th Grade…
Welcome to 6th Grade! The class supply list is very minimal: backpack (small one is fine); and appropriate shoes for P.E. Please make sure your child is dressed according to the district dress code (available in the student handbook). We are always taking class donations of bleach wipes, hand sanitizer, and tissues.
This month, our main focus will be mindset- knowing that mistakes are a form of learning, that challenging our brain is important, and that we will believe, achieve and succeed in this class. Ask your student about how the brain is like a muscle.
In ELA, we will be learning about narratives and writing personal narratives. At home, talk to your student about the great memories you have, with a focus on the order events happened in to help with sequencing events.
In Math, we will begin by reviewing our multiplication tables. Multiplication flashcards or drills at home would support this review. We will also learn about positive and negative numbers.
In Science, we will be learning about energy! This unit will culminate in student-created S’more Solar Ovens. More information will be sent home as the experiment approaches.
