Fourth grade expectations prompt students to determine answers to questions such as: “How can photos be changed on the computer, and how can that affect our feelings about the way we look? How do you create a positive online community? What should you do when someone uses mean or scary language on the Internet? How can a secure password help you protect your private information? Which keywords will give you the best search results?” The expectations for fourth grade address ISTE Student Standards, NVACS, AASL, and CASEL. Students are introduced to the topics of identity and self-image, as well as digital drama and cyberbullying. Students build upon previous learning around communication and relationships. In addition, students will demonstrate grade-appropriate mastery of safety, security and privacy practices, and information literacy competencies. Artifacts created through lessons should be posted in the classroom for reference throughout the academic year.
