The expectations in first grade encourage students to formulate answers to questions such as: “How do you stay safe when you visit a website? What information is okay to have in your digital footprint? Which keywords will give you the best search results?” First grade expectations include ISTE Student Standards and provide curricular alignment to NVACS, AASL, and CASEL. First grade students are expected to build upon previous learning to search online and protect private information. Students are also expected to develop an understanding of the relationship between safety in the real world and safety in the digital world. Students will apply learning through games, product creation, and online searches. Through the reinforcement of safety, security and privacy, and information literacy content, students are expected to demonstrate grade-appropriate digital practices. Artifacts created through lessons should be posted in the classroom for reference throughout the academic year.
