COMPLETED OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE 2018 - 2019 SCHOOL YEAR
August 31: Courtyard at Lunch: We will be having a clubs day and need people to man our table to tell everyone about what we do.
SEPTEMBER 22: PEAVINE ELEMENTARY ANNUAL ChiliFest. EVENT WILL TAKE PLACE FROM 10:30-3pm. WE HAVE HELPED PEAVINE WITH THIS EVENT IN THE PAST. MEMBERS REPORT THAT THEY HAVE A GREAT TIME! THE EVENT COORDINATOR IS KATHY PATTERSON. THEY ARE COUNTING ON OUR HELP FOR THEIR KIDS. WE WILL HAVE SIGN UPS AT OUR August 23 MEETING. PLEASE BE THINKING ABOUT THIS.
SEPTEMBER 23: Gopher Day at Roy Gomm. You should have signed up at the September meeting. If you need more information please contact Mrs. M. immediately. If you signed up, your name and information was given to the coordinator.
September 24: Small gym right after school for about an hour to set up for Sophomore interviews. We help McQueen with this project every year. Many hands will get this job done quickly. Mrs. Williams from the career center or any other adult in charge can sign off on your hours.
September 29: DOG FEST at Evelyn Mount Community Center/Dick Taylor Park from 11:00 AM TO 2:00 PM.
October 14: Verdi Pumpkin Patch. We do this event each year with our friends from Honor Society. You will have a great time and the people at Verdi ES are always so very grateful for our help. Sign-ups will be at our September meeting.
October 19-21: McQueen Craft Faire. In the past, all K&L members have supported our event by volunteering 2 hours. Your shift can be at any time that is convenient for you over that weekend. No double dipping is allowed and you cannot get credit for anything other than Knights & Ladies. Any adult wearing a blue apron or that has a walkie talkie can sign off on your hours.
October 25: KTMB Fall Clean Up right after school, meet in room 205: All members are required to do at least one of the two of these that we do each year. This is really a great event and it portrays McQueen High School as a leader in our community. Our area runs from McQueen to Northwest Library. The event goes very quickly when everyone shows up. Bring all of your club friends. This is a fun event!
November 2: Rollan Melton Harvest Festival from 4:45pm - 7:45 PM. We have helped this school with their wonderful fundraiser in the past. The request came early this year and it was specifically asked that Knights and Ladies please help them out with the face painting. This is where the greatest need is and they would like for K&L to run the special booth for this. All of the face painting supplies will be provided for you. It's easy and it's fun and the kids absolutely love it! Rollan Melton needs our help to pull this off. Sign-ups will take place at our September meeting and you may work this in short shifts.
December 1: Santaland at Westergard Elementary from 7:30am to 1:00pm. Westergard requests our help nearly every year. They are in need of elves and people to wrap presents. Our job is to help the children through Santaland to select presents. Sign ups happened at the October meeting.
December 8 & December 9: Nevada Elite Wrestling.
Nevada Elite Wrestling is the feeder program to the McQ wrestling program. We are hosting a tournament on Dec 9 at Mcqueen High School and Elite Wrestling is looking for some hardworking volunteers. They are really in need of table help on December 9. There are 2 sessions on December 9, AM and PM. AM is 7:30-noon and PM is noon to 5. Setup is on 12/8 around 5pm and Tear Down will be immediately following the tournament, 4pm on 12/9. Once again, the big need is table help on December 9. It would be GREATLY appreciated if you can help in any capacity, including set up on December 8.
January 21 (MLK DAY!):
Join the Center for Student Engagement for this year's Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service on Monday, January 21, 2019 from 8:20am-1:00pm.
A Day On - Not a Day Off! Join other Nevada students remembering the legacy of Dr. King by working with the Boys and Girls Club of Truckee Meadows. Learn about the wonderful organization in our community, meet new people, help your community firsthand, and celebrate Dr. King! The MLK Day of Service is part of a campus-wide celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his commitment to social justice. You must stay the entire time.
We will meet in front of the Jot Travis building at 8:20am and take the CONNECT shuttle over to the Boys & Girls club at 8:30am.
Once we get there we will:
- Read with the kids a story about Martin Luther King Jr. and have a discussion about why we celebrate the day.
- Help the kids write thank you letters to Civil Rights leaders who marched with Martin Luther King Jr.
- Help the kids make signs ready for their own mini MLK Day march.
- After the march is over, we’ll have lunch and also have a chance to listen to their guest speakers.
We will head back to campus at 1:00pm. Lunch and transportation will be provided.
Feb 27 from 3:15 - 5:00 pm. Volunteers will need to arrive at Anderson Elementary School by 3:15 PM. There will be a sign in desk in the front hall - tell the teachers there that you are a McQueen volunteer and they will direct you to room 13. The event will last until 5:00 and volunteers will be provided pizza.
Feb 27 from 6:00 - 7:30pm Knights and Ladies will be passing out fliers to parents and students in the gym for Eighth Grade Night.
March 14: right after school meet in room 205 to pick up supplies for the Annual KTMB Spring Clean Up from McQueen to the Northwest Library. All members are required to do at least one of the two of these we do for our community each year.
Through March 16: Girl Scouts are looking for a couple of community volunteers to help finish their stocking and preparations for the cookie sale. You do not have to be a Girl Scout. For more information, you can call 775-322-0642 to ask about this. The online sign up has more information that may answer any questions you have.
April 3: Boys & Girls Club- The Boys & Girls Club is looking for volunteers for their Boys & Girls Nite Out on April 3, 2019 from 4 pm – 6:30 pm. Pick up a flyer in the Career Center for more information.
May 18, Saturday: Celtic Celebration. We have had some volunteers working this event before. They contacted us this year and asked for our help. In the past, they have indicated that will feed people who give them a hand. If you are going to return next year, you can use this for approved hours. Click on the link to sign up.
