Trustee Scott Kelley’s passion is his son, who attends school in the Washoe County School District. Trustee Kelley previously served as WCSD Trustee for District E from 2009-2012. He sought another term in 2016 to move the district in a positive direction and help students receive a quality education.
Trustee Kelley joined the U.S. Army at age 17. As a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division and 173rd Airborne Brigade, he completed 29 airborne jumps from aircraft and helicopters, and served as a peacekeeper in Bosnia, Haiti, and Kosovo. In 2005, he left the service honorably as a staff sergeant (E-6). During the recession, Kelley worked with other school board members to avoid teacher layoffs while increasing the graduation rate from 56 percent in 2009 to 70 percent in 2011. The Board received an award for best school board in the country at the 2012 National Association of School Board’s Conference. Today, Trustee Kelley works in the Governor’s Office of Energy, which positions Nevada to lead the nation in renewable energy production, energy conservation, and the exportation of energy.
